CONFERENCE SESSION IN THE NEHRU AUDITORIUM Establishing Digital Cinema in India: This session will discuss the road map for establishing digital cinema in India with respect to decisions on technology and framework of distribution with open access. This session will explore the demands and requirements of a digital cinema environment in India. Problems of transition both financial and technical in the Indian context.
Notes:
The recent e-cinema wave by multiplex players did not build into a mass movement to digital. Why? We must explore the reasons and the answers to a more systematic and planned transition in India Panelists will be selected from the Multiplex Association of India, Theatre owners Association of India, Cinematographers Association of India. Other panelists will be chosen from digital cinema equipment manufacturers and distributors. Other panelists will be chosen from digital cinema technology companies. Other panelisits will be chosen from film distributors.

State of the industry: Multiplex growth and single cinema survival. Era of transition in film distribution and cinema exhibition infrastructure in India. Overview of the growth of cinema screens. Demand of potential growth and expansion exponentially to nearly 100,00,000 screens
Notes:  
This conference session needs to evaluate the multiplex phenomenon. The Indian cinema industry in exhibition and distribution needs to take a reality check movie industry economy in coping with the transition to multiplexes from single theatres. Does the Indian cinema economy have the depth financially to translate the cinema exhibition and distribution to the multiplex level? How long will this transition take? What are the funding avenues? Is the Indian cinema economy to respond to the financial needs of multiplexes? How will the cinema exhibition sector serve the needs of the lower sector and reach the millions of viewers who presently cannot afford to enter a multiplex. How will the expansion by thousands of screens be achieved? What are the technologies that will serve this end? The panelisits will be selected from film industry associations, major distributors and major film producers and major multiplex promoters and financial institutions connected with the film industry.
